Papers, 1860-1999.

The papers include correspondence; transcripts of speeches; professional and autobiographical writings; files on organizations and professional activities; awards and tributes; and photographs. Family material includes written recollections and materials that reflect the unique Gilbreth method of child-rearing such as daily schedules and magazines created by the children reflecting the ways in which the emphasis on efficient time and motion management characterized the Gilbreth home. The bulk of the family correspondence is with Gilbreth's third daughter, Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, co-author of Cheaper by the Dozen and Belles on Their Toes. The collection includes several of Gilbreths' published books. These papers were compiled by Ernestine Carey who has been documenting her mother's career in preparation for a biography. Many of the documents include attached notes by Carey.
